Al Jazeera
Al Jazeera is a Qatari state-funded international news network headquartered in Doha. Founded in 1996, it operates Arabic and English-language channels and is the most-watched news network in the Arab world.
Al Jazeera’s coverage of the Iran crisis is shaped by Qatar’s unique position: Qatar hosts Al Udeid Air Base (the largest US military installation in the Middle East) while simultaneously maintaining diplomatic relations with Iran and sharing the massive South Pars/North Dome gas field across the maritime boundary. Qatar has been directly struck by Iranian missiles during the current conflict — making Al Jazeera both a news outlet covering the crisis and a voice from a nation under attack.
Al Jazeera provides critical Arabic-language sourcing, regional perspective, and access to actors (Hezbollah, Hamas, Iraqi militias) that Western outlets cannot easily reach. However, editorial decisions reflect Qatari foreign policy interests — coverage tends to be critical of US and Israeli military operations while giving less scrutiny to Iranian proxy activities. Credibility rating of “medium” reflects this known editorial alignment, not factual accuracy of individual reports, which are generally reliable on verifiable claims.
